X-FACTOR IS AN INSULT TO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

Finally it's been printed in the press, what an insult the X-Factor is to the music industry. I have been saying this for years and feel strongly about it. The entire show makes me cringe and it's principles really make me angry! At the end of the day it's all about making money. Music shouldn't be all about this! So what if you can sing endless shitty covers of others songs? If you can't write/play instruments you lack true passion. There are so many singers/songwriters and bands out there with amazing talent that won't get the recognition they deserve because of shite talent shows like the X-Factor.

This video of Cher Lloyd says it all really!

If you missed the article here it is direct from www.thisislondon.co.uk

'Boring' X Factor is strangling real musical talent, says star of Suede
Alistair Foster, Showbusiness Correspondent

The X Factor has come under fire from a string of British chart veterans who claim the show is damaging the music industry.

Suede frontman Brett Anderson, Madness singer Suggs, and Bernard Sumner of New Order believe the show is stifling opportunities for new artists.
The musicians are the latest to criticise the X Factor. Earlier this month Elton John blasted the talent contest as “boring, arse-paralysingly brain crippling.”

The attack comes as several ex-contestants of the ITV show have criticised their mentors and a number of Facebook campaigns are being set up to scupper Simon Cowell's plans to have a Christmas No 1 with the winner.

Anderson, 43, who is credited with kick-starting the Britpop movement with Suede, claimed the show was “strangling” the music industry. He said: “I think on the plus side when you have a kind of awful mainstream thing like the X Factor and all that talent show rubbish, it means that there is always a kind of reaction to that.”

His bandmate Mat Osman said: “The thing I find incredible about the whole X Factor thing is they get paid to put it on. It's basically an advert for Simon Cowell for his acts.
“He should surely be paying a fortune for prime-time TV for these crappy acts rather than someone coming along and then paying him.”

Sumner, 54, a founding member of seminal bands Joy Division and New Order, said: “I think people are interested in image and the kind of bullshit you get on TV in shows like the X Factor. I think it stinks because it's more about the people who are making the programme than the people they are purporting to promote.

“I like real music. I'm not interested in how well you can sing. It's not how you sing, it's what you sing that interests me. What they're singing is other people's music and it's not creative.
“I think Simon Cowell is supplying a market and that market is completely
uninteresting and boring.”

Suggs, 49, who has collected two Ivor Novello awards during his time in Camden ska band Madness, said the X Factor had left less room for others who were attempting to succeed in a more organic fashion.

“I don't think there is a lot of room for young bands in the charts and they have been filled up with people who don't really have any real interest in music,” he added.

AMAZING remixes of Reckoner (Radiohead)

With Radiohead being my fave band ever, I am usually really protective over their tunes and so cringe when someone tries to produce a remix.

But here are some I actually like! Of Reckoner.....

And to add to all this loveliness I thought I would post the beautiful lyrics too! These are typed myself so if you see anything incorrect with my translations let me know! ;)

Reckoner

Bittersweet distractor
Dare not speak it's name
Dedicated to all you
All human beings

Because we separate like
Ripple on a blank shore

MY GUIDE TO CLUBBING

BEHAVE WHEN YOU RAVE

Last few times I've been raving has spurred me to have a rant so here goes....

1. Make sure you shower before you leave and for gods sake wear some deodorant. Aftershave/perfume is a bonus. We all know the whiffs have got worse since the smoking ban. There's no excuse for being smelly on a night out.

2. Dress appropriately. Don't wear so many layers you'll be sweating all over the place, and don't EVER take your top off unless it catches fire or something. Find a happy medium. Girls - heels are a no no depending on your endurance.

3. If you're larger than life, don't dance like a Kangeroo on acid. Someone will only get hurt. Plus you'll look like a complete twat.

4. Make decisions fast cos hesitation is a pain in the arse. Remember that Facebook group 'I secretly want to punch slow walking people in the back of the head'. Yeah you get the point.

5. When it comes to going to the toilet we all know girls take bloody ages to go. No idea why. It takes 2 minutes at the most to pee, wipe and flush. Anything else can be done at the same time surely. So speed it up a little! And multitask if you need to! Washing your hands goes without saying.

6. Pace yourself with whatever it is you choose to consume. You look like a stupid loser and ruin your mates nights if you end up unconscious in a pile of your own puke. And I've heard it's not good for your health.

7. It's nice to show the DJ your appreciation but don't touch/talk to them mid set. It's counter-productive not to mention bloody annoying. A smile is more than enough.

8. Don't go clubbing solely to chat up girls. You won't get what you came for. It is considered disgraceful to waltz up to a girl and try it on UNLESS they have approached you first. It will have the opposite effect intended. Trust me. It's an embarrassment. Try speed dating/porn instead.

9. If you are lucky enough to pull for goodness sake take your horny actions to a private location ie NOT the dancefloor. We come raving to enjoy the music not to watch people dry humping each others groins off.

10. Rant over - ENJOY YOURSELF!

I'LL HOUSE YOU

My love of dance music has stemmed from way back when I was a little nipper thanks to my dad being a huge fan of house (I mean real house). Think The Nightwriters, Robert Owens and the one and only Larry Heard.

Sorry to interrupt but this is one of my favourite tunes of all time:
Nightwriters - Let The Music Use You….

Ok so back to Larry Heard AKA Mr Fingers…Born in Chicago, 1960, to a Motown loving family, he was a talented youngster, experimenting with different instruments from a early age. He worked for the US government which paid for his first studio equipment and kick started his music career. These are some of my fave tracks:

Can You Feel It

Missing You

Mystery of Dub

Oh and Robert Owens was the vocalist in most of his tracks! Such a beautiful voice!!!!!! This is ones my fave - Ordinary People (artwork is so iconic!)

And In Love Forever:

This ones still played in clubs even now:
Larry Heard Presents Mr White - The Sun Can't Compare

All in all this music is timeless and plays such a massive influence on producers today. Iconic. And fucking amazing quite frankly. All played a big part in my growing up!

PS Larry Heard is playing the Rizla Dance Arena at Love Box tomorrow at 19.30 - 21.30!!!!!! Get your tickets here.

MINIMALISM FROM JPLS

Miminal is extremely tricky to do well when it comes to techno. JPLS is the don as far as I'm concerned. His beats get me high! Stripped down no frills techno. Can't beat it. I get lost it this track - Fold:

It builds and builds then breaks down so subtly you hardly notice but it's enough to keep you hypnotised.

This track Reset is also sick. Really epic!

The Dark Horses

This post is belated but I always have time for The Dark Horses ever since I saw them support UNKLE at Koko back in May. I'd never heard of them before this gig and I was pretty much blown away by the music. Haunting drones and beautiful husky lyrics sung by Lisa Elle (AKA Elle J). Oh and a man playing the chain. Yep, the chain. The most amazing thing about these guys is the fact that they are UNSIGNED! Doubt this will last long though, seeing as they have UNKLE backing them!

Lisa's amazing vocals feature on a few tunes on UNKLE's latest album 'Where Did The Night Fall'. Really amazing album. Also has all instrumental versions of the tracks! She also goes by the name of 'Elle J' on these though, just to confuse you.

Check out some tracks by The Dark Horses on their MySpace page here.

You can also get a free download here. Doesn't really do it justice but watch this space as I am sure they will be going places very soon!

Here's one of the UNKLE tracks featuring Elle J. My fave on the album in fact!

I love it when artists come up with amazing ideas! Especially when their music is actually decent! One of my fave artists Robyn has just come up with a cracker.

The opening tune of her album Body Talk Part I (BUY HERE it's awesome) 'Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do' is basically Robyn ranting about all the things that are 'killing her' over a sick glitchy beat. MY LOVE FOR LE GUN

After a hardcore night out at Fabric, sitting in the bachelor pad of my dear friend Paulo, I discovered something wonderful in his magazine rack. Le Gun. What a masterpiece! If you've never heard of it, it can only be described as an awe inspiring work of dark art. Also known as a narrative illustration magazine :) It's literally full of strange illustrative stories that are right up my alley. Here's what I'm chatting about....

This obviously doesn't do it justice but you get the idea I hope! Kind of reminds me of the visuals I get in my head when I'm listening to The Knife. This tune especially:

The Knife - Silent Shout by The Quake

Which is my favouritest tune ever ever ever ever ever ever.

Unfortunately I cannot find anywhere that sells this awesome magazine :( Not even the site itself! Boo! So if anyone knows, give me a shout! It makes my brain very happy.
